Empirical Solutions has played a pivotal role in enhancing Australia’s maritime capabilities through its involvement in the Cape Class Patrol Boats (CCPB) in-service support. An initiative that underlines the importance of asset management in ensuring operational readiness and compliance with safety standards.
The Australian Border Force (ABF) identified a critical need to optimise the operational readiness and sustainment of the CCPB fleet, which is vital for Australia’s maritime security and border protection efforts.
In October 2022, Empirical Solutions provided a Marine Project Engineer resource to manage the end-to-end in-service support of the CCPB, guaranteeing that all operational and safety standards were met throughout the vessels' lifecycle. Our Marine Project Engineer was responsible for the strategic planning and execution of eight mid-life upgrade programmes, aligning with the ABF’s strategic objectives. By implementing a framework for
analysing and ensuring engineering Functional Integrity and Compliance (FIC), the engineer identified potential risks and upheld safety standards.
Significant achievements included the establishment of a holistic program management approach for the fleet's maintenance, which encompassed ten yearly maintenance schedules and mid-life upgrades. This initiative was crucial in extending the vessels' operational life while ensuring compliance with safety regulations. Open lines of communication were established between the ABF, in-service support providers, and industry partners, facilitating timely issue resolution and ensuring project scopes were met without compromising safety.
Empirical Solutions conducted thorough analyses to assure engineering FIC. The engineer evaluated design and operational parameters, implementing rigorous testing and evaluation protocols to identify potential safety hazards and recommend corrective actions. This commitment to safety not only enhanced the operational readiness of the CCPB fleet but also fostered a culture of safety within the organisation.
